After a tough first half against a strong breeze ended 0-0, Cockerhams physical strength told on a spirited Craven side and the second half produced 6 goals and a bagful of missed chances. Tom Ayrtons 10 minute hat-trick of well taken goals settled the result and Adam Barton-Eccles nipped in with a well deserved brace after another tireless display up front with Michael Andrews scoring from a corner to cap a fine second half display. Again this was a great team effort with all 11 playing a significant part in this result. A mention for Alan France who sacrificed himself for the team putting complete containment on Cravens left winger who was a real danger man with speed and quick feet, well done Alan superb job.
MATCH REPORT:
Sept 3rd 2100HRS
Cockerham 3 v 1 Warton Warriors
The lads got the season off to a great start with a hard fought victory over Warton. After an even 20 minutes the deadlock was broken when Tom Graham converted a penalty given for handball in the box. This was followed late in the first half with a second for Graham when he nipped in between the defender and keeper to stab home a slide rule pass from Tom Ayrton. Warton came back into the game with 18 minutes left when they scored with a great shot from the edge of the box but the points were sealed when Adam Barton-Eccles, making a great debut up front, broke clear and although his shot was well saved by the Warton keeper Graham followed up to complete his hat-trick.
Although Tom got the goals this was a fantastic team performance with everyone giving 100% effort and gave the management team much hope after some dismal performances last season. A quick word for the debutants, Mark Bone very competant and assured in the goals giving the defence confidence, Tom Ayrton a solid all round display in midfield and a great pass for the second goal, Adam Barton Eccles all action display up front with the heart of a lion, Michael Andrews worked tirelessly down the left flank and whipped in some good crosses and last but not least Ben Tucker man of the match performance in defensive midfield winning challenge after challenge and distributing the ball intelligently.
