Due to some quick thinking and action on the day of the flood plus a mammoth effort from volunteers, almost unbelievably, The Riverside will see football action resume this Wednesday 31st August against Crooklands Casuals. The pitch has recovered quickly and the changing rooms were put back together yesterday when a group of players turned up to complete the job. The clubhouse still has some way to go but the bar will be open on Wednesday for drinks. Thanks to everyone who helped us out.
Alex Colquhoun and Ben Roberts posing for pictures when they should have been working!
Although the clubhouse is likely to be out of action for some time yet the football changing rooms have been cleaned and if its dried out tomorrow the plastic flooring will be relaid. The pitch has not suffered too badly, all the standing water has gone so if the floodlights test ok hopes are high that we can get the home game with Crooklands Casuals next Wednesday on.
Due to the flooding the games tomorrow against Hesketh Bank and Saturday's game versus Eagley are both OFF. Hoping to get back in action for next week's game against Crooklands Casuals but a lot of work to do before then.
This was the scene yesterday as the football and cricket pitches disappeared under 3ft of water and the newly refurbished clubhouse was flooded again 8 months after Storm Desmond wreaked havoc. What can you say?
BURSCOUGH RICHMOND RES 2-3 GARSTANG RES (Jack pen, Hickox, Baldwin)
Great result tonight for reserves, on the down side the Riverside pitch was under 3 feet of water and the clubhouse has been breached again. Soul destroying.

Dave said "I'm looking forward to the game and I've already got the best of problems with lads ringing desperate to play but only 11 can start. Marc Armstrong is back between the sticks as "Boney" is away and a couple of new faces could make a start."

We haven't put the tree up yet but it's time to start thinking about the "Christmas Do." This year Garstang FC have booked the outstanding Wyre Bank venue to a host a Christmas party night to start the festivities with a bang. After a three course Christmas dinner with all the trimmings and decorations, DJ Andy Richardson will provide the music to get the dance floor bouncing. Every person will receive a free raffle ticket for the chance to win some nice prizes and a couple of special items will be auctioned. There will also be a photo booth with props so you can have some daft memories of the night just in case you can't remember the morning after! This would be ideal for your works do but it's open to everyone, tables are for 10 so you could book a full table or join with other people. The poster above has the booking details so please get organised and have something to look forward to, it's guaranteed to be a great night!

MILLOM v GARSTANG RES KO 3PM
The Reserves have a long trip up the west coast into Cumbria to take on Millom. With the first team not having a game manager Simon Bentham should be able to assemble a decent squad for what will be another tough encounter. Millom have started with two draws whilst Garstang lost their first game at Croston earlier in the week. Although disappointed with the result Simon was pleased with the effort put in and is hoping we can pick up some points to get the season started.
Garstang FC Reserves are looking for someone to act as linesperson for their matches this season at both home and away games. Transport can be provided if required and a gratuity will be paid. If interested get in touch via Facebook or email address on website or speak to Secretary Adrian on 07967 337411.
LONGRIDGE TOWN 4-0 GARSTANG
Message to all senior players. You must get your lottery sponsorship or pay it yourself by the end of the month. Anyone not sorting it by then will have to pay £5 a game. Lottery costs £60, £5 a game works out about £160, you do the maths! There are forms in the home dressing room if you've lost yours. The support of the lottery is essential for the club to keep progressing and if anyone would like to join with chance of winning £1000 and other cash prizes every month whilst supporting your local club then phone Les on 07969 235217.

LONGRIDGE TOWN v GARSTANG KO 7.30PM
A trip to the Mike Riding Ground tomorrow for the first derby of the season is what faces Lee Bakers squad in what should be a very interesting encounter. With Charnock Richard moving up to the Counties Longridge will be many peoples favourites for the title. Rumours abound that they have been "splashing the cash" and they have assembled a very strong group of players for Lee Ashcroft to choose from. Garstang will be without Hay and Matichechia who are both unavailable so changes will have to be made.
Lee baker said "It's good to have a game so soon after Saturday and all I'm looking at is our performance. Longridge have set their sights on the title this season and they can't afford to drop points so the pressure is all on them with us having nothing to lose and everything to gain."

CROSTON SPORTS FC v GARSTANG RES KO 6.30PM
The Reserves begin their campaign in the newly formatted Division 2 league with a difficult trip to Croston Sports. New management team of Simon Bentham and Hugh Sneddon have spent the last few weeks getting to know their new charges, bringing in one or two new faces and having a look at the youth team lads but it all begins in earnest tomorrow.
Manager Simon commented "We had a great pre-season with some very testing games. We are fully prepared for the season ahead and we can't wait to get started." He went on "Croston are a decent outfit and will be a good test but one we are up for."

West Lancs Premier League
GARSTANG v COPPULL UTD KO 3PM
The new season kicks off tomorrow with Garstang welcoming Coppull Utd to The Riverside. Both sides had ups and downs last season and both are in a transition period with a number of changes in both players and management. The game heralds the start of the Lee Baker and Neil Beesley reign and this pair have put in a lot of hard work pre-season both with training and strenghening the playing staff.
Asked to comment Lee said "We are really looking forward to what will be a very hard game and one we can't really predict. They, like us, have made a lot of changes and they will fancy their chances against us." He went on "We will need to keep it tight and play to the system. The lads are hungry to get going and though pre-season went well it's hard to judge the level we are at. Things will take time and the fans wont see the best of us just yet but I'm confident things are going in the right direction."

GARSTANG 1-0 PADIHAM (A Coar)
Garstang had a deserved win in the Adam Swanwick Cup match against Padiham. Although Alan Coar continued his goal scoring streak this was a very good team performance against a quality outfit. Every Garstang player put in a solid shift to win this game played in memory of Adam and it was lovely to see all the family down there. Thanks to the Padiham lads who stayed on after the game and enjoyed the hospitality at The Farmers after the game. The 50/50 draw was won by Steve Smith.

ADAM SWANWICK MEMORIAL CUP
The Adam Swanwick Memorial Cup will be played tomorrow (Saturday 23rd) at The Riverside between Garstang and Padiham with a 3pm kick off. The visitors warmed up this week with a game against Blackpool Wren Rovers winning 3-0 and, being two leagues above Garstang in the football pyramid, will be a stiff challenge for Lee Baker's men.
The holiday season continues to impact on pre-season preparation with Alex Hay, Dan Birch and Ben Roberts all away but cover for them comes in the shape of Jake Salisbury, Ellis Hancox and James Beet.
The Reserves take on Poulton tonight at the Poolfoot complex, Thornton ko 7.30pm. Postcode to ground is FY5 4HX. Result 0-4 on a very hot night!
There have been a number of alterations to the fixtures for both the first and reserve teams so check the up to date fixtures page if you're going to a game. The youth team will be training at Garstang Community Academy 7pm on Monday and Thursday this week and new players are still welcome to attend. The winner of the 50/50 draw at the game yesterday was ticket 0770 which was claimed in the clubhouse.
Garstang 5-3 Squires Gate (A Coar 4 (1 pen), R Coar)
Alan (left) and Rick Coar (right) had a good return to the club with Alan bagging 4 and Rick 1 as the pair of them proved too hot to handle for Squires Gate today.
Unfortunately the reserve game at Lostock St Gerards tomorrow has had to be cancelled.
PRE SEASON FIXTURES
Both the first and reserve teams have fixtures tomorrow (Sat 16th). The first team are at home to Squires Gate (ko 3pm) in a fixture which sees Garstang manager Lee Baker and assistant Neil Beesley up against the club they both played for. Not everyone is available but the lads will be looking forward to a game having been put through some rigorous fitness training over the last few weeks.
The reserves travel to Lostock St Gerards Res (ko 3pm) with a side consisting of one or two new faces and some of the youth team squad as new manager Simon Bentham starts to get a look at the players at his disposal. Talking about Wednesday's friendly with Pilling and Preesall Simon said "I saw a lot of good things especially as it was our first game together as a group. We made loads of chances but got a bit sloppy defensively in the second half."
Two new signings made their Garstang debuts on Wednesday for the reserves Andy "Luca" Hickox (above left) and Matt Seed (above right). Both lads were at Fulwood Amateurs last season but were keen to join Simon and Hugh at the earliest opportunity.

OH BROTHER, ITS DOUBLE TROUBLE!
Rick Coar (left), Alan Coar (right) with Garstang FC assistant manager Neil Beesley
Garstang Manager Lee Baker has pulled off a major coup with the double signing of brothers Richard and Alan Coar for the new season. Both lads played for Garstang when they last won the West Lancs Premier League and their return gives a massive boost to the club. Rick said, "Having played with Lee (Baker) it was an easy decision for me when he asked me to return to Garstang, I am really looking forward to getting started." Alan commented "The chance of playing with my brother was too good to pass up, I am fitter than I've been for some time and I've not been so excited about a new season for a long time." He added "Garstang have great local support and get good numbers down to games which was also a factor in my decision to sign."
Chairman, Adrian Wilding, who went to meet the lads last night, could barely contain his excitement. He said "They are both big strong old fashioned centre forwards who have scored goals wherever they have played." He went on "They are really good, honest, down to earth lads who are going to be great both on the pitch and in the dressing room, I, for one, can't wait to see them in a Garstang shirt again."
There were a couple of pleasant surprises for Garstang FC when members of the committee and management attended the West Lancashire League annual end of season presentation night recently. As well as receiving the Richardson Cup runners up trophy the club were also awarded the reserve division Fair Play Award and Adrian Wilding was the Secretary of the Year. Not a bad season after all.

CROOKLANDS CASUALS v GARSTANG KO 6.45PM
In what has turned out to be a strange end to the season, (12 days since the last first team game) and yet an extension to the season by 14 days, it may be somewhat difficult for Manager Lee Baker to pick up the threads following the Richardson Cup Final defeat against Charnock Richard which now seems a long time ago. However, reports on the Reserves fine 0–3 win at Charnock last Saturday will have given him great encouragement.
Crooklands Casuals away on a Tuesday night is never going to be easy, time, travel and a number of players unavailable due to work commitments. But Lee is keen to pick up as many points as possible to cement a place in the top half of the league table.
Lee said, “The last 3 games will give opportunities for the players to show me their commitment to the Club and in so doing stake a claim to be in my first team squad next season.”
WERE THE BOYS ALREADY ON THE BEACH?
Reserve team manager, Dave Graham, surveys his troops who were not in the best of shape prior to the game following a late night out at Tom G's 21st. However, they cleared their heads, worked their socks off and produced probably the best team performance of the season to beat Charnock Richard 3-0. #Proud.

It will also be the final game of interim manager Dave Graham's 8 match tenure. Dave said "Charnock is always a difficult place to go to but it is also an excellent venue for playing football so we can go there and enjoy what should be a decent game." He went on "The lads have given me everything since I came in, the work rate and quality of finishing at Haslingden was exceptional so I'm hoping for one last big effort to finish the season in style."
